In this day and age, we are becoming used to fast . . fast cars, fast food, fast choices, fast communication, etc. The Great Northern Exhibition is an event that lets folks enjoy a more relaxed pace of entertainment, activity, and information.
Started over 150 years ago by the mixing of rural and town populations as a means, like so many 'county fairs', of sharing ideas, technologies and just good old bragging rights for the best cow, or pickles, the Great Northern Exhibition has kept up with, or perhaps, stayed slightly behind the times when it comes to its selection of activities and exhibits.
That's not to say that individuals in the rural community don't stay on the leading edge of technology . . the tractor driver has a cell phone in his or her pocket, checks the weather forecasts on the internet, and the commodity prices with his or her blackberry . . .
With that in mind, the GNE has had a website for a decade, and today starts a new chapter in interactive communication.
It is our intention to have this ongoing Blog for the use of those volunteers who make the GNE the great Fair that it's become. . . .
What can be posted here??
- Notices of meetings or events . .
- Minutes of those meetings . . ( we are a public group, and minutes are available to the public)
- Ideas to improve the GNE . .
- Questions about how things go . . .
- Schedules of upcoming activities . .
- Comments on news of current interest in the social or rural fields . . ( no pun intended )
We hope this will help connections between all our contributors, volunteers, sponsors and fair guests . .
So, for now, you can add a comment, or if you have a post of your own, forward it to me at
the Back 40 Blogger
and I'll get it up for you . . .
